In 1840 more than 500 chiefs signed the Treaty of Waitangi, New Zealand’s founding document. Ngā Tohu, when complete, will contain a biographical sketch of each signatory.

Te Huka may have been a visiting Te Arawa rangatira. He signed Te Tiriti with Te Āti Awa and Ngāti Toa rangatira on 29 April 1840.

He may have been the Te Huka who was one of those awarded ownership of the Maungatautari block in the Native Land Court in 1868.
